Broke da Mast

weather bound and decidedly on a vacation from our vacation we’ve gone ahead with a pre holiday non plan to like it or not hole up where one is at. hunkered in for the long haul we’ll taste, enjoy and describe the graces of where we be

hands, skin, nails, clothes still most likely dirty but trending towards cleaning up with a side of mayo while the double burger onion theme rings like jingly little bells striking sense as we move through to the holiday season

oh those Honolulu nights er well Sand Island anyway… surviving a mere stumbling distance away from our new found respite we take host and toast the skyline from these last few week’s water bordered haven

King Kamehameha would have been proud…  giving some insight into the surroundings to say thanks while we luxuriate in the fine food and fantastic OG Tiki Bar atmosphere of the potentially understated La Mariana Sailing Club

night after day after night coursed the main vein between the temporary guest slip & the slippery seaside slope of our soon to be exhausted stationing

on second thought i’m definitely going to need a bucket… discovering a crack in the seam and an unexpected sudden surprise doubles routine finds us getting down in the docks but luckily allowing a few days to get bailed out before dropping back into the daily routine

“Te Moana, Te Moana..” with room soon running out at the inn and not much more to choose from at the manger (or the menu for that matter) the rag tag leftovers take in that one last sunset, choosing to leave the comfort of hot showers and secure tie downs. rallying in force for our brief but brilliantly clear window over moonscape through open ocean and northeast with the stars and winds pushing us from where we were to where we wanted to be

mere moments into the maneuvering we make west & slightly north sticking at the edge of the wind shadow to keep us moving. making a straight edged book smart navigational plotting we gain left and wide to chart a 290 course onwards towards the home shores of Kauai

getting an offshore escort and scoring a pod… this great bunch of dolphins gave us a genuine farewell and an enjoyable push wishing us healthy travels for our impending overnight run

trading hour for hour while we gauged gps coordinates and matched chart positions through epic conditions and great if not fantastic sailing… with our token puker lodged securely below we hammered through the wind, the waves, the sideways rain & the night to discover upon arrival we were not only lucky but more than holiday blessed!

genuinely sketched by the recent events that had transpired mid ocean without our knowing… we scrambled to brace the mushroomed mast, raced through the week securing crane contracts while dismantling rigging and voraciously searched replacements as we back ran wiring with our fingers crossed hoping the slowly corroding steel/stainless matrix would hold

whoops i did it again… leaving you with the security & safety of concrete and dock with a genuine report of mast down! still reeling from the experience we want to make sure to give more than plenty of thanks all around from www.luckystarsail.com we wish you a happy holiday season… Merry Christmas and a Very Very Happy New Year!
